| Victoria: From the Latin meaning "victory". The name was little known until Queen Victoria (1819-1901) came to the throne in England in 1837. Queen Victoria inherited her name from her German mother, Mary Louise Victoria of Saxe-Coburg. Queen Victoria's outlook characterised most of the 19th Century, known as the Victorian period. She was survived by six of her nine childresn, forty grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. |
