The feminine form of "Jacques"(the French version of James or Jacob) which has been used in Britain since the thirteenth century and became very popular in the United States and elsewhere in the 1960s, partly influenced by the fame and stylish image of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, whose family were of French extraction.
