Emma
An old French name of Germanic origin, meaning "whole" or "universal". Jane Austen used the name for the heroine of her famous novel, Emma, in 1816.
Bradford
Old English, meaning "the broad river crossing". Used originally as a surname, it is now used as a first name, particularly in the USA. Famous bearers of the surname were William Bradford (1590-1657), leader of the Pilgrim Fathers and also another William Bradford (1722-91), who played an important part in the American Revolution.
