Alexandra
The feminine form of "Alexander", which comes from the Greek, meaning "defender of men".
The beautiful Princess Alexandra of Denmark, daughter of King Christian IX, made the name popular when she came to England to marry the future king, Edward VII, in 1863. She founded Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps and Alexandra Rose Day.
